The Western Panthers came away with a hard-fought 51-42 victory over Coldwater, showcasing exceptional defensive play, particularly in the first quarter, where they held Coldwater to just 2 points. The first-quarter defense was stellar, as Western led 13-2, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Coldwater tried to rally back with a few runs throughout the game, but Western’s defense continued to hold strong, and they made key free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Notable Performances:

    • Cody Spitzer contributed 8 points, adding crucial scoring throughout the game.
    • DJ VanRiper led the team with 13 points and 3 steals, playing an all-around role.
    • Maverick Hammond had an impressive game, putting up 14 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.

    • Eli Herrington and Jayden Willis each chipped in 4 points.

Columbia 51 vs Jonesville 48

The Lady Golden Eagles hosted the Comets of Jonesville in a big Cascades Conference matchup. The Comets came out hot and took an early 10 point lead. The Lady Eagles trailed by 6 going into the half. The Lady Golden Eagles fought back and took the lead in the 4th quarter off a big 3 point shot from Kolie Brown. They never looked back after that taking the win 51-48. Leading the way was Gabby Gaydosh with 16 points. Leelyn Brown added 11 points and Kolie Brown chipped in 10, 7 coming in the 4th quarter. The win clinched the Cascades West title earning a spot in the Championship game at Spring Arbor University against Grass Lake this Saturday at 7:00 pm.
