Powerful Pitching Performance From Hailey Wetherby Carries Columbia Central Varsity Golden Eagles Past Lumen Christi Catholic

Game #1

Hailey Wetherby struck out 14 batters as the starting pitcher led Columbia Central Varsity Golden Eagles past Lumen Christi Catholic 4-1 on Thursday.

Wetherby allowed zero hits and one run over seven innings while walking none.

Columbia Central Varsity Golden Eagles jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Wetherby doubled, scoring one run, and Leelyn Brown singled, scoring two runs.

A single by Raell Bice extended the Columbia Central Varsity Golden Eagles lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

Bella Wrozek stepped in the circle first for Lumen Christi Catholic. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking two.

Columbia Central Varsity Golden Eagles extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Gabby Gaydosh and Leelyn Brown.

Ollie Powers led things off in the circle for Lumen Christi Catholic. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and four runs over six innings, striking out seven and walking four.

Brown led Columbia Central Varsity Golden Eagles with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Kelsey Fausz set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Columbia Central VarsityGolden Eagles with two hits in four at bats.

Columbia Central Varsity Golden Eagles were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. McKenna Hoskins made the most plays with 12.

Lily Ganton went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Mallory Arcaro, Lucy Wrozek, Ganton, and Powers each collected one hit for Lumen Christi Catholic. Lumen Christi Catholic were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Wrozek made the most plays with nine.
