Golf

The Columbia Central Boys Golf team played a league jamboree yesterday at Hankhills Golf Course, hosted by Leslie High School. The team finished with a season-best score of 178, good enough for 4th place. The team was led by Parker Gough, who shot his best round of the year at a 39, three over par. The next event for the boys’ golf team will be a two-man scramble this Friday at Lakeland Hills Golf Club.

Tennis

On Tuesday, the #8 Western Girls Tennis Team traveled to #9 East Grand Rapids and battled in a 1-7 loss.  1 singles player Dru Porter got the lone win with a 6-2, 6-1 performance.  Another highlight of the afternoon was the play of 4 doubles of Silvia Baker and Anna Willinger who took their opponents to a third set only to fall to the Pioneers 5-10 in the third set tiebreaker.  The entire team played hard and elevated their game tremendously but ultimately fell to the multi-time state champion school.  Next up for the Panthers is an away match on Thursday vs Hastings at 4 pm.  Let’s go Panthers!

The Columbia Central Varsity Girls Tennis team battled Lumen Christi tonight and ended with a 4-4 tie.  Earning points for the Golden Eagles were Lydia Sanders, Ashley Yang, Madonna Chehade, Olivia Slusher and Kennedy Mitoska.

Track

Last night, due to weather postponement, the Golden Eagle track and field teams competed against the Vandercook Lake Jayhawks at Hanover-Horton in the Cascades West Jamboree. Being a jamboree, Columbia competed against everyone on the West side of the conference but their team scores against Vandercook were the only scores that counted towards Cascades conference standings.

In the girls meet, Melyssa McJennett won the 300 hurdles and long jump overall. Molly Sierer (in her first high school track and field meet) won the shot put with a distance of 34′ 6 3/4″ setting a new freshman record for Columbia Central (#3 all-time for Columbia Central). Sonia Butler had an outstanding and aggressive 800m race, running a 2:41.82, the number four freshman 800m time in Columbia Central history. The girls ended the day beating the Vandercook Lady Jayhawks 71 to 19 getting their first Cascades Conference win of the season with every teammate doing their part in the victory.
On the boys side, event winners in the jamboree included Luke Ellison in the 200m, and David Munro in the 800m, both athletes running a personal record. The boys ended the day victorious as well, beating Vandercook Lake 98 to 38.
