Results from the weekend for Jackson area league teams.
Golf
Saturday, the Lady Eagles of Columbia Central prepared for the state final today by participating in a highly competitive tournament at Bedford Valley Golf Course (the same course that will host the MHSAA State Final). The team finished in 4th with a score of 369. Logan Bentley finished individually in 3rd with a 78. Iliana Fowle scored a 96. Ashley Yang finished with a 97. And, Kelsey Fausz finished with a 98. Even with our underperformance, we were still in the thick of the field. We used the opportunity to gain an insight of the course. We will improve. We will bring our best in October. Soar Golden Eagles!
Soccer
Friday, the Panthers hit the road Friday night to play a top ranked Detroit Country Day team.
Western found themselves in a defensive posture most of the evening. The back line of Warner, Nally, Eva, and Luke had their hands full, but played remarkable. Midfielders Roza and Watterson covered much ground, but were unable to get forward enough to create many dangerous opportunities. Aidan Barrett played well in goal, but was buried with shots from close up and distance.
Roarke Watterson scored on a penalty kick for the Panther’s only goal Friday. They fell to Country Day 6-1.
Western begins their I-8 Conference play Tuesday night when they visit Battle Creek Pennfield. Sitting at 2-3-1, the Panthers have been tested and now are ready to defend their conference title.
Volleyball
On Saturday, the varsity volleyball team traveled to Mason to compete in the Bulldog Invite. In pool play the Panthers took care of business finishing 3-0 and earning a number 2 overall seed: Dansville 25-20, 25-20, Northwest 25-21, 25-23, and Sturgis 25-18, 25-14. In the first game of bracket play Western defeated the 7th seed Bath 25-10, 25-15. In the semi-finals, the Panthers defeated Dansville 25-22, 25-19. Up next, the host school Mason in the finals. Despite the girls leaving it all on the floor they came up a little short losing 21-25, 18-25. Overall the varsity team continues to improve and show a lot of heart.
